We're Here!!

So this is already an adventure. How else could a trip like this start? Of course...an airport fiasco. Little did Ashley know that attempting to meet Liana at her terminal 25 minutes after she was SUPPOSED to land would turn into a two mile walk across the largest airport ever! Three hours later (Liana's flight was delayed), the "24-hour shuttle service" to our hotel had closed at midnight. Go figure! However, we found a cab...well, he kind of found us and we finally made it to the hotel. En route, the cab driver informed us that a pound had 100 pence in it. I think we probably should have known that. And our cab ride cost "800 pence."

The hotel was nice, but it was a maze - an absolute labyrinth of hallways and doors. The reception lady was very helpful. However, after we were assigned to the wrong room (by the way, spent five minutes shoving the wrong key into someone else's door) AND having to switch our phones out (the first one hated us), I think she was starting to get a little irritated. The calling card situation is a whole other story. They didn't work! Or at least, we didn't think so until a $25 call to the U.S. to Susan (Ashley's mom) was apparently all we needed. This, of course, was all after an attempt to find the payphones (remember, our phone didn't work at first). The receptionist - the nice one - tried to tell Ashley to walk down the dark alley to find the phone booth by herself. When Ashley just responded with an, "okay" and a smile, the woman said, "are you scared to go by yourself?" Yup...and that didn't happen.

So now we are here in London - Piccadilly, London - after taking a long ass train ride to get here. A hot one at that...apparently London is having a heat wave or something. We are checked into our first hostel called Piccadilly Backpackers. It's...a hostel. Our walls are bright yellow with some sort of artsy poetry painted in black nailpolish or something. We call it charming.

We're off to explore. We're not sure what yet, but we'll figure it out and we'll let you know. Missing you all already!

Love from London,
Ash and Liana
